Call-center quality systems, brokerages, government agencies, and other entities have a need to monitor fax transactions between two parties. Some of these organizations have a need to implement third-party monitoring of T.38-based fax transactions. Commetrex’ FaxTap for T.38 is an off-line (non-real-time) software product that converts a PCAP file, the output of Wireshark (Ethereal), to the TIFF-F file that results from the fax transaction. In other cases, the monitoring is done by recording the PCM stream for later conversion to a viewable format. FaxTap for PCM is an off-line (non-real-time) software process that converts the recorded PCM file to a TIFF-F file. Both of these products will render the image, if possible, and tell you in a synopsis just what happened during the session.
